In March, House lawmakers approved a bill that would give TikTok roughly six months to sell. Another factor that’s shaking things up is how House Republicans inserted the TikTok bill into a much larger foreign aid package. Biden endorsed the prior version of the TikTok bill, which suggests he may quickly sign any foreign aid package that includes similar language targeting TikTok. In addition to complying with the legislation, TikTok could challenge it in court and has made no secret that it might do so.

But it could also override some of the toughest state-based privacy laws in the nation, such as in California. And it would guarantee Americans the right to request copies of their data, to correct it or even to have it deleted from a company’s records. ILWACO, Wash. (AP) — A fire at a port building along the coast in Washington state destroyed more than 1,000 crab pots just ahead of the state's commercial Dungeness crab season, which opens Feb. 1. The remote area of the fire made it difficult to get enough water supply to fight the blaze, the Ilwaco Fire Department said in a Tuesday statement. About 8,500 crab pots on the deck surrounding the building made fighting the fire even more difficult, officials said. "I hope we will have some chips funding announcements this fall." It is not clear how long from initial announcements it will take the Commerce Department to finalize funding agreements. Separately, Raimondo said she supports legislation that would give the Commerce Department new tools to address information and communications technology supply (ICTS) chain concerns posed by China and other foreign adversaries.

WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Two U.S. senators said they were investigating short video sharing app TikTok's reported decision recently to hire several high-level executives from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. Republican Senator Josh Hawley, who sought unanimously consent to win approval for legislation to ban TikTok in May, plans to force a vote on the issue later this year. "We need to come back to it and we need to ban it," he told Reuters last month. "(TikTok) has hired lobbyists by the bazillion, they are in the halls constantly and they have been able to stop progress." TikTok is fighting a ban by the state of Montana set to take effect on Jan. 1.
